BRCK Foundation funding helps support local schools to improve and protect the health of children

The BRCK Foundation has been supporting Moseley Rugby Community Foundation (MRCF) for the last year as one of our chosen charities, which is the charitable foundation arm of Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club. Originally established in 2004 the organisation works with local schools to improve and protect the health of children in and around the Inner-City area of Birmingham.  

Over the last year, the BRCK Foundation’s funding has helped MRCF achieve the follow impact:

• Engaged 5,100+ young people across 42 local schools
• Embedded rugby into the curriculum at 8 secondary schools
• Welcomed 32 new players into their mini & junior section
• Raised £7,000+, funding 350 hours of school coaching

The Walking Rugby programme:

• Grew from 6 to 40 participants, with 26 regular players
• Provides vital social connection for over 50s, including those recovering from serious illness
• Built strong peer support networks, improving mental health and reducing isolation
• Expanded through a partnership with the Department for Work & Pensions, blending sport with CV writing, interview skills, and job support
• Delivered two 10-week programmes supporting long-term unemployed participants

Innovative School Programmes

Using rugby to inspire learning and personal development:

• Rugby Readers – combining literacy and sport
• Scrum Sums – developing numeracy through rugby challenges
• Bags of Character – building leadership, resilience & teamwork
• Targeted support for disengaged and behaviourally challenged pupils

Plus:

• Hosted school festivals for 15 schools
• Delivered teacher training (CPD) to grow confidence in delivering rugby
• Ran leadership programmes and work experience placements

Developing the Future:

• Mentoring coaches and improving training standards across youth rugby
• Introducing structured player development pathways
• Delivering RFU coaching courses and contributing nationally as part of the RFU Schools Rugby programme
