# The Department Store Studios

Designed by architecture firm [Squire & Partners](https://squireandpartners.com/) as an extension to their own existing office space, The Department Store Studios is a modern co-working building which features a blend of red toned bricks supplied by Taylor Maxwell and installed by subcontractors [Lyons and Annoot](https://lyonsannoot.co.uk/).

 The £7.9m project's design focused on a contemporary reimagination of the existing Edwardian architecture on Bellefield Road where the building is located. By utilising a blend of three red bricks, including snap headers, alongside white mortar and stone lintels, the architects have created a striking and stand out build within the local vernacular.

By frequently alternating snap headers, a unique visual aesthetic was achieved. The snap headers also provided an essential design element of stability, which meant that the building did not require a cavity and could instead rely on a more traditional construction approach.
