# Goldstone Hall, Mithras Student Village

Located on the Moulsecoomb campus at the University of Brighton, Goldstone Hall is an 18 storey tower block providing accommodation for students. Taylor Maxwell worked alongside [ECE Architecture ](https://www.ecearchitecture.com/)and [Hassell Studio](https://www.hassellstudio.com/) to supply 17 colours of Argeton terracotta cladding to the project which was managed by [Bouygues](https://www.bouygues-uk.com/). The cladding tiles were installed on-site by subcontractors [M Price](https://mpricegroup.co.uk/).

 Argeton terracotta cladding was specified on the project as it met the architects requirements for a robust and natural facade material, that could also produce a visually striking and unique facade design. The use of 17 different coloured terracotta tiles, selected by analysing the surrounding landscape, created a distinctive facade which makes the building a focal point of the wider masterplan.

With a historically low-rise skyline, new high-rise buildings in Brighton are expected to meet certain criteria, including high levels of design. Goldstone Hall went above and beyond with meeting this requirement and became the tallest building to be built in Brighton in the past 50 years.

     ![Panorama 17 Large](https://brckgroup.com/uploads/images/Projects/_1300x644_crop_center-center_none/Panorama-17-Large_2024-03-12-143126_pros.jpg)   Featuring a complex facade design, it was important that the cladding system on Goldstone Hall could be fixed back to the framing system easily. Argeton terracotta Tampa tiles were selected by the architects as they utilise concealed clips which can be efficiently clipped into place on a vertical railing system, offering both environmental and cost saving benefits. The tiles, which are made from 100% recycled materials have both an 14025 and EN 15804 status and contributed to the scheme meeting BREEAM Excellent requirements.

Overall this project has made positive contributions to the local environment and has released pressure on Brighton's student housing market.
